Penn Kemble Fellowship Applications Close July 14

There is one week left to apply for the 2021-2022 Cohort of the Penn Kemble Forum on Democracy! Applications will only remain open until July 14, 2021. Drawing on the expertise of foreign policy practitioners, activists, and academic experts, the Forum is an opportunity for rising foreign policy professionals to share ideas across sectors and explore the role of democracy and human rights within a broader policy and strategic context.

Organized and sponsored by the Endowment, the Forum has provided fellows with the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the complexities of U.S. foreign policy from prominent diplomats, like former Ambassadors Rich Verma (India) and Derek Mitchell (Burma) and Special Envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams;
  • Meet leading activists and dissidents from Russia, North Korea, and Hong Kong;
  • Engage prominent intellectuals, including the Washington Post’s Anne Applebaum and Stanford University’s Francis Fukuyama, on issues ranging from disinformation to identity politics;
  • Participate in skills-based sessions, such as editorial writing with Will Dobson (former NPR Chief Foreign Editor), and private forums, including the Holocaust Museum’s genocide prevention programs;
  • Network with other emerging foreign policy/national security professionals for Happy Hour and social events, including movie screenings and theater visits.

The Forum will run from September 2021 to June 2022. Applicants should be professionals based in the DC area with 5-10 years of professional experience in national security and foreign policy-related issues within government, think tanks, and the private or non-profit sectors. The Forum encourages applications from Capitol Hill, security-related fields, journalists covering international affairs, and the private sector.
