DRC activist musician’s arrest prompts concern

Democracy and human rights advocates are expressing concern over the arrest of musician and activist Delphin Katembo Vinyasiki, aka Delcat Idengo, a prominent voice of civil society in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The writer of the famous Politiciens Escrocs (Politicians crooks’ – above), Pays des Prisonniers (‘Country of prisoners’ – below) and other songs questioning the authorities, was arrested by the security services in the town of Butembo, North Kivu on Sunday, October 10.

His case has been taken up by the Organisation pour la Paix et le Developpement (OPD), a partner of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
